We studied the relationship between total earned operating revenue, earned relational revenue, and expenses for arts and cultural organizations.

What we learned: Earned operating revenue supported 51% of expenses in 2018. It has fluctuated over time in proportion to total expenses and was highest in 2017 compared to 2016 and 2018.
What we learned: While the subscription model is not dead for the arts and cultural field as a whole, its robustness varies not only between the sectors but also among various organizational budget sizes within each sector.
