Dr. Zannie Voss (Ph.D., IAE Graduate School of Management, Aix-Marseille III University) is Director of SMU DataArts | National Center for Arts Research and Professor of Arts Management in SMU’s Meadows School of the Arts and the Cox School of Business. She served as Chair of Arts Management and Arts Entrepreneurship at SMU for ten years. Prior to joining the SMU faculty, she was a Professor at Duke University and Producing Director of Theater Previews at Duke, developing and co-producing more than a dozen new plays and musicals, two of which ran on Broadway and national tour.
Before transitioning to academia, Zannie served as Managing Director of PlayMakers Repertory Company, Associate Manager of the Alley Theatre, and Assistant Director of Audience Development at the Mark Taper Forum. She has served as a consultant to numerous grantmakers and to Theatre Development Fund, the League of American Orchestras, and Theatre Communications Group, co-authoring TCG’s annual Theatre Facts since 1998.
Zannie has published articles examining the strategic factors that influence organizational performance in leading academic journals in marketing (e.g., Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research) and management (e.g., Academy of Management Journal, Organization Science). She is former Associate Editor of the International Journal of Arts Management and served as Vice Chair of Programs on the board of trustees of TACA. She is a board member of the International Association of Arts and Cultural Management (AIMAC), the Dallas Symphony Association, and the New Orleans Museum of Art, and she recently served a three-year term as a member of the American Academy of Arts and Science’s Commission on the Arts.
